About Me

My name is Michelle, I am VSGMOM. I made the life changing decision to have weight loss surgery, after 2 of my beloved family members had strokes with in a few years of each other. Neither of them were obese. For the first time, I started to care about my size and about my quality of life. I considered my family, especially my children and I knew that I needed to make some drastic changes if I wanted to live a good life and be the best mom I could be.

On August 4, 2010 I had a vertical sleeve gastrectomy. This blog was started to document my experience with weight loss surgery. It has since evolved into my passion with in this WLS community and our need to be advocates for ourselves and each other.

Want to buy me a coffee, or support my travel to WLS event fund?

  1. Hi Michelle,
I’m due to be sleeved hopefully at the end of the year. I only need my psych eval. and insurance approval (a biggie). I found your blog and read the whole thing over a couple of days. Basically I’ voraciously reading the journeys of sleeve gastrectomy folks so I know somewhat what to expect (the good and bad).

I know two people in your life are due for surgery. I am praying for your little Kailey, you and your family. I know sometimes the old adage “when it rains it pours” really fits. Just in the last month a friend committed suicide, my best friend was diagnosed with breast cancer and my daughter and I found our cat dead (coyote). Believe it or not, that last one hit the hardest. You have a dog so I think you can understand. She sticks by your Kailey when she is not feeling well. How could that dog be described as “dumb, soulless animal.” Same with Tasha cat.

On top of that, my pre-surgical tests and labs came back all screwed up. I have high blood pressure, a gallbladder full of stones, I show gastritis, horribly fatty liver, horrid cholesterol level, pre-diabetic and the best part? I had a mammography and the called me back in to get a better look with ultrasound. My primary care doctor wants me to go on all these medications while I’m trying to get ready for this surgery. He has to do my EKG and I’m wondering what that’s going to come back like.

I’m 46 now and in 2002-2003 I lost all my excess weight on phentermine. I gained it all back and then some. My skin did just fine then, but I know I won’t be so lucky this time (especially in the abdominal region).

So all this is really to say thank you for all your posts and I hope Kailey is all right. I love her spark.

    • Hi Shelley, good luck with the final stages of your approval process! I love my sleeve and I’m thrilled that my husband was recently approved for his!
I’m sorry for the loss of your kittie and for the down pour in your life. It’s all about dancing through the rain, right?
This comment came at the right time. I needed a pick me up & here you were!
Kailey had some minor surgery on Friday. The surgery she was supposed to have, simply wasn’t an option at the time. She is a fragile child and her health wasnt stable. But she is home, active & right as rain.
Thank you for your kindness. It means the world to me.
